THE LIVED experiences of Reading’s Windrush generation will be at the centre of discussion at an upcoming event to celebrate Black History Month.
Open to all, A Conversation with Windrush Elders will look to honour, inspire and educate those in attendance on Saturday, October 28.
The free event will be hosted by Dr Marcia Burrowes, a lecturer at the University of the West Indies, and feature the stories of those who made the journey from the Caribbean to the United Kingdom during the mid-20th Century.
In addition to the panel interview, visitors will have the opportunity to ask their own questions, to learn more about the heartwarming and astounding first-hand accounts of those who embarked on the Windrush journey.
Also on display will be the Windrush Lives community display and the Enigma of Arrivals exhibition.
It is part of an event series organised by Reading Windrush Group to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Windrush, and is supported by Acre, Reading Museum, CAG, Age UK Berkshire, Reading Borough Council and the Lottery Heritage Fund.
The event runs from 2.30pm-4.30pm at St Laurence’s Church, The Forbury.
