READING FC will be hoping to gain bragging rights when they host rivals Swindon Town in the EFL Trophy in the first meeting between the two teams for more than two decades.

The Royals are in the midst of a troubling run of form which has seen them pick up just one point in the league from their last four matches.

Ruben Selles’ side have shown promise in the cup competitions, including an impressive 4-0 away win at Championship side Millwall in the EFL Cup and an exceptional 9-0 win at Exeter City In the EFL Trophy.

The stakes will be high on Tuesday night as Reading face rivals Swindon in competitive action for the first time since February 2002 in a match that ended goalless.

The last time the Robins made the trip to the Madejski Stadium, they ran out as 3-1 winners in October 2001

Michael Flynn’s Swindon side are currently in ninth position in League Two having picked up 19 points from their opening 11 matches.

The Robins are winless in their last two games having lost 3-1 to Notts County last Tuesday before they were beaten 1-0 by Bradford City at the weekend.

In their opening game of the EFL Trophy, Swindon drew 2-2 with Arsenal U21s before they lost out 5-4 on penalties.

Selles is expected to rotate his side following the defeat to Leyton Orient and with the international break on the horizon.

Sam Smith and Mamadi Camara are both close to returning from injury, while Reading will still be without Amadou Mbengue.

Sam Hutchinson may also be unavailable after getting injured in the warm up prior to the game against Oritent.

Predicted Reading line-up: Boyce-Clarke, Guinness-Walker, Holmes, Abbey, McIntyre, Savage, Wing, Elliott, Mukairu, Vickers, Ballard
