TELEVISION presenter Chris Tarrant will be hosting a night of bookies and betting in aid of Swings & Smiles, a Thatcham-based disability charity of which he is a patron.
The former host of much-loved favourites Who Wants to be a Millionaire and Tiswas will introduce the evening’s festivities in May, to raise money for local beneficiaries.
Mr Tarrant said: “The work Swings & Smiles does for disabled children and their families is incredible. I’m really looking forward to supporting what promises to be a hugely entertaining fundraising event.”
The charity offers respite, family play sessions, youth clubs, sibling support and outreach to families with children and young people aged between 0 and 18 with a wide range of disabilities and special needs.
Suzi’s daughter Lexie has a rare genetic condition, complex needs, development delay and epilepsy, as well as being non-verbal. The charity, she says, offers a lifeline for her family.
“Before Swings & Smiles, we were unable to access any groups,” said Suzi. “Soft play, playgroups and clubs were all out of the question because Lexie’s medical and developmental needs are so complex.
“But as soon as we came [here], we could tell things were going to be different. It provides us with everything that we need to enjoy a relaxed play session as a family.
“[Lexie’s brother] Maxwell also loves coming here and his confidence has grown immensely, as he can be anxious and struggles with confidence. I can’t imagine life without our Swings & Smiles family now.”
Swings & Smiles will be holding its ‘Race Night in Bucklebury’ on Friday 17th May to raise funds for play and respite resources for disabled children and their families.
Tickets cost £25 and can be purchased at www.swingsandsmiles.co.uk/Event/race-night
